Youth Race Team Applications 2027

Applications are now open for riders wishing to join the Clancy Briggs Youth Race Team for the 2027 season.

Following another successful year of racing, training, learning and adventure, we're excited to welcome applications from ambitious young riders who want to develop their cycling in a positive, supportive and enjoyable team environment.

About the Team

The Clancy Briggs Youth Race Team exists to provide talented young riders with opportunities to develop both on and off the bike. Our programme is designed to help riders improve their racing, build confidence, develop independence and create lifelong friendships through cycling.

While performance and progression are important, our ethos remains simple: cycling should be fun.

We want to create riders who genuinely love the sport — not just racing, but everything that comes with it. The adventures, the friendships, the shared experiences, the challenges and the memories. We believe that when young riders develop a lifelong passion for cycling, they stay involved in the sport for longer, giving themselves the best possible opportunity to reach their full potential.

What We've Been Up To This Year

The 2026 season has been one of our busiest and most rewarding yet.

Alongside a full race calendar, we've organised three residential training weekends where riders have come together for intensive training, team-building and plenty of fun both on and off the bike.

These weekends have provided opportunities for riders to:

  • Train and ride together away from home
  • Develop confidence and independence
  • Learn practical life skills such as cooking and looking after themselves
  • Build resilience when faced with challenging weather and demanding training sessions
  • Develop teamwork and communication skills
  • Form friendships that extend far beyond race day

One of the most rewarding aspects for our coaches has been watching riders from different clubs and backgrounds come together as a team. The friendships formed during these trips have been a huge part of what makes the programme so special.

While these weekends do carry a cost, we've worked hard to keep them as affordable as possible. Thanks to funding raised through organising four days and evenings of circuit racing throughout the year, we've been able to significantly subsidise these experiences and make them accessible to more riders.

We're also excited to be supporting a part-funded trip to Belgium for a group of our U16 riders this August. This will provide a fantastic opportunity for rider development and give our riders a taste of racing abroad on open roads ahead of their transition into the junior ranks next season. Experiencing different styles of racing and racing environments is an invaluable part of a young rider's development, and we're looking forward to seeing what they learn from the trip.

Fully Funded Programme

Our fully funded programme is aimed at riders who demonstrate both strong racing potential and a commitment to making the most of the opportunities provided by the team.

For selected athletes we're proud to provide:

  • Race Kit – Ride with pride in a ClancyBriggs racesuit. We’ll supply each supported rider with a free pro racesuit, with any additional kit available at cost.
  • Free Elite Coaching – Benefit from a full season of professional coaching (now spanning until 1st October 2027), guided by the experience and expertise of Ali Slater and Graham Briggs.
  • Free Group Training Sessions – Attend our regular group race training sessions at no cost, working alongside ex-pro coaches and like-minded peers to refine your skills, fitness and technique.
  • Access to team activities like the subsidised team weekends at Ranby House.

Places on the fully funded programme are limited and will be awarded based on application quality, commitment, attitude, development potential and racing performance in national series events.

Part Funded Programme

We also offer a part funded programme designed to provide access to many of the same opportunities while allowing more riders to become part of the team environment.

The programme may include:

  • Access to team training opportunities
  • Team camps and residential weekends
  • Coaching support and guidance
  • Team activities and development opportunities
  • Access to selected team clothing packages
  • Inclusion in team events and race support opportunities

We believe that every rider develops at a different rate, and our aim is to provide opportunities for enthusiastic young cyclists who are eager to learn, improve and contribute positively to the team.

Who Should Apply?

We're looking for riders who:

  • Are passionate about cycling
  • Enjoy racing and want to develop their skills
  • Are keen to race and compete at a national level in road, track, cyclocross and/or mountain bike events
  • Are ambitious to progress within the sport and maximise their potential
  • Have a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Are willing to learn and support their teammates
  • Want to be part of a supportive team environment
  • Are excited about the opportunities and adventures that cycling can offer

Results are important, but they are not the only thing we look for. We're particularly interested in riders who demonstrate commitment, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to improve. Attitude, coachability, teamwork and a willingness to embrace opportunities are all key factors when selecting riders.

Interested in Supporting the Team?

The Clancy Briggs Youth Team is only possible thanks to the support of our partners, volunteers and the wider cycling community.

As the project continues to grow, we're always keen to hear from individuals, businesses and organisations who would like to support the next generation of cyclists. Additional support allows us to expand the opportunities we can offer riders, helping to subsidise training weekends, development camps, racing opportunities and experiences such as our overseas trips.

If you'd be interested in supporting the team in any capacity, or would simply like to find out more about what we're doing, please get in touch via [email protected]. We'd love to hear from you and discuss how we can continue to develop the programme and create even more opportunities for young riders through Clancy Briggs.
