Sherwood Pines Trail Class

Our Sherwood Pine Trail classes are an all-new session that we’re very excited to be launching in summer 2023.

The red group sessions will begin on 18th May, providing the minimum number of participants has been met. In the event this requirement has not been met & you have booked, we'll pause your booking until the class is ready to start, at which point we'll notify you & start the class.

Currently we've got 1 group running, the Red group session. This is available to book by selecting 17:30-19:30 in the dropdown menu. The Blue group isn't running at the moment, but we have a waiting list that you can sign up to, as soon as we reach the required number we'll be in touch to start this session. You can join the waiting list by selecting the 17:31-19:31 option in the dropdown menu. If you're not sure please get in touch & we'll be able to talk you through the different groups to find which is right for you.

Building on the success of our MTB day camps (that we also run from Sherwood) we’re now looking to provide a weekly option for keen young MTB riders to join us & build their skills throughout the summer. Under the guidance of our expert coaching group, riders will head out onto the extensive trail network and explore MTB skills & techniques.

Taking place at Sherwood Pines forest Park (NG21 9JL) on Thursday evenings, 17:30-19:30 we’ll be running 2 groups (red & blue) that will take place on alternate weeks. This means, whichever group you sign up for, you’ll get one, 2 hour class, every 2 weeks.

The Groups

Blue Group

Suggested age - 6-12 (We’re cautious about using age as a guide for these sessions, as we’ve found ability is more important).

Required ability - Riders must be able to ride unaided on off road terrain, confidently starting & stopping. Riders must be able to stand up on the pedals and cruise on uneven terrain.

Our Blue group sessions are all about having fun on bikes while developing core off road skills and techniques. After meeting on the arena area grass & warming up with a few skills games, the group will head straight out onto the trails. Each week under the guidance of our coaches, they’ll explore a different section of the trails, building on techniques all while experiencing the best elements of cycling, fun, freedom and friends!

What sort of bike do I need? For our Blue group, you'll need a good quality MTB, suitable for riding over the rough terrain found at Sherwood Pines Red route trail & bike park area.

What other equipment is needed?

Working bike & helmet – this doesn’t have to be a high-end model but must be of good quality suitable for advanced off-road terrain and in good working order. Helmets must of appropriate size/fit for the rider & must be in good condition (no cracks) If you’re not sure if your bike is sufficient then feel free to contact us on [email protected] & our coaches can advise you further.

  • Spare innertube (that fits your bike)
  • Warm clothing and waterproofs. You can’t have enough of these even if the weather looks great, we’ll be outside all day and once cold or wet it’s hard to warmup again.
  • Plenty of snacks and drinks. Cycling is hard work, so lots of high energy snacks (bananas, flapjacks and jelly babies are popular) are important. Plenty of water/drinks.
  • Gloves – cold hands are horrible. Crashing without gloves is also unpleasant.
  • Sun cream (it’s always sunny in Sherwood)

Red Group

Suggested age – 10-16 (We’re cautious about using age as a guide for these sessions, as we’ve found ability is more important)

Required ability – riders must be able to ride a lap of Sherwood pines red route, with sufficient fitness to tackle 2 hours of riding including short steep climbs. Riders need to have a reasonable level of confidence on uneven terrain, they must be able to stand up on their bikes with level pedals and cruise over uneven terrain.

For older/ more experienced riders our Red trail group caters for more advanced riders than the blue. The focus is still very much the same, fun! After warming up with a few skills games and challenges, riders will head out onto the trails. In this group we’ll explore the red trails & the bike park area, including dirt jumps and downhill singletrack. Each week under the guidance of our coaches, they’ll explore a different section of the trails, building on techniques all while experiencing the best elements of cycling, fun, freedom and friends!
