Retford Academy goes indoors for Winter
Throughout the year we run classes every Thursday from Ranby House school as part of our Retford Academy. We love these sessions as we think the extensive grounds available allow us to add something different to our cycling sessions & challenge riders of all ages or abilities, whether it’s the woodland single track for developing those trail riding skills or the sweeping grass playing fields that are perfect for ramps and bigger items of kit. Retford certainly has it's own special identity.
How do things change in the Winter?
Throughout the cold dark winter months, we move indoors at Retford. We’re fortunate to have access to the main sports hall which lets us run our sessions out of the cold and dark.
Coach Ali Slater has this to say about the indoor facilities “the indoor space is a real game changer for us, particularly for the learn classes, it allows us to stay warm and dry while focusing on building those basic skills, which makes things much more enjoyable for the youngsters. As soon as they’ve mastered the basics we can take them out and apply those techniques to the mixed terrain on offer.”
Through the winter we run both our Pedal and Learn classes indoors, aside from the location change our sessions don’t change too drastically, we still use the full range of ramps and equipment & our coaches have become experts in being creative with creating courses and challenges that run through the hall.
