October Half Term Camps
MTB Masterclass
Red Masterclass
Location - The Fantastic Sherwood Pines - Edwinstowe, Mansfield NG21 9JL
Timings - This session runs from 10:00-16:00pm. 27/10/22.
Suggested age – 8-16 (We’re cautious about using age as a guide for these sessions, as we’ve found ability is more important)
Required ability – riders must be able to ride a lap of Sherwood pines red route, with sufficient fitness to tackle short steep climbs. Riders need to have a reasonable level of confidence on uneven terrain and be able to stand up on their bikes and cruise over uneven terrain.
What do we get up-to? Our red group is aimed at having fun on bikes & developing our technical skills. We’ll use our ramps and equipment to asses riders skills & develop them further. Before heading out onto the trails (red) and working on some of the technical sections. We’ll finally move onto the dirt jumps and bike park trails to develop some advanced techniques and have more fun. Led by our expert coaches, we'll use a mixture of the natural terrain, woodland & our ramps & kit to work on some key skills and develop off-road techniques. Think bunny-hops, manuals, wheelies, weight distribution, cornering, gear selection, starts, etc. Our ramps and see-saws are brilliant for testing out & the riders balance and weight distribution in a fun engaging way. We may also create some competitive scenarios and see how our skills stand up under the pressure of race conditions.
What sort of bike do I need? For our Red trail group, you'll need a good quality MTB, suitable for riding over the rough terrain found at Sherwood Pines Red route trail & bike park area.
What equipment is needed?
- Working bike & helmet – this doesn’t have to be a high-end model but must be of good quality suitable for advanced off-road terrain and in good working order. Helmets must of approprite size/fit for the rider & must be in good condition (no cracks) If you’re not sure if your bike is sufficient then feel free to contact us on [email protected] & our coaches can advise you further.
- Packed lunch (with lots of high energy food)
- Spare innertube (that fits your bike)
- Warm clothing and waterproofs. You can’t have enough of these even if the weather looks great, we’ll be outside all day and once cold or wet it’s hard to warmup again.
- Plenty of snacks and drinks. Cycling is hard work, so lots of high energy snacks (bananas, flapjacks and jelly babies are popular) are important. Plenty of water/drinks.
- Gloves – cold hands are horrible. Crashing without gloves is also unpleasant.
- Sun cream (it’s always sunny in Sherwood)
Our complete team of fully qualified experienced, insured, First Aid trained & Enhanced DBS checked instructors will be on hand for your child's every need throughout the afternoon to ensure your child is happy, safe & having the time of their lives.
The price is £55 for the whole day.
Cyclo-Cross Masterclass
Our CX Masterclass is the ultimate place to hone your cx racing skills. It's led by our expert coaches Graham & Ali. Both of whom are accomplished CX racers.
Location – The wonderful grounds at Worksop College, Cuthbert's Avenue, Worksop S80 3AP.
Timings - This session runs from 10:00-16:00pm. 26/10/22
Suggested age – 8-16 years (riders will be split into age/ability groups)
Required ability – it’s a full day of (fun &) riding the bikes, so minimum standard means you need to be fit & happy to spend the whole day riding.
What do we get up to? Our CX Masterclass is the ultimate day of cx skills and technique development.
You’ll spend the full day from 10am-4pm exploring all aspects of CX racing and developing your skillset. These sessions are aimed at those with a strong interest in CX racing and a cyclo-cross bike is highly recommended. A high level of fitness is essential. The morning session will focus on essential techniques training: starts, dismounting and remounting the bike, carrying the bike, cornering techniques, bunny-hops etc. Everything you need to be a complete cx rider. We’ll break for lunch before the 2nd half of the day.
During the afternoon session you’ll be putting new techniques into practice with coach-led racing and games, using your new techniques under a little bit of pressure, whilst having fun.
Worksop college borders Clumber Park & it's woodland. We may head off site for a portion of the day to gain access to extra terrain and features.
